We Say
Although portable lighting for detailers has come on leaps and bounds in recent years, thanks to advances in LED technology and market-specific research and development by companies such as SCANGRIP, there hasn't hitherto been a perfect solution for coating installation duties. While powerful LED lights provide excellent illumination for general detailing duties, they can be a hindrance during the coating application process. This is because the strong unfiltered light they emit sometimes fails to highlight minor imperfections such as high spots or buffing smears, which can be time-consuming and costly to fix once the coating has hardened. To address this limitation, Gyeon have worked in collaboration with the market leader in professional automotive lighting solutions, SCANGRIP, to develop an LED work light optimised for the coating application process. The end result is the Gyeon PRISM Plus. In simple terms, this new work light not only incorporates all of the usual functions and features associated with the work lights in the SCANGRIP DETAILING range, but also comes supplied with a pair of innovative diffuser caps that can be used to soften the strong LED light output. This effect, akin to using a softbox in studio photography, highlights minor imperfections that might otherwise initially go unnoticed, and thus helps to ensure that a flawless finish is always achieved. Having now worked with coatings for many years, we know just how easily it is to miss minor smears and high spots when buffing off, and the Gyeon PRISM Plus is true game changer in this respect; compared to using a standard detailing-orientated LED work light, the difference is like night and day. Small enough to hold comfortably in your hand (the rear is ergonomically-shaped), yet powerful enough to illuminate even the darkest of garages and workshops, the Gyeon PRISM Plus punches well above its compact size and weight. The rechargeable battery offers up to 10 hours of cable-free use, which is more convenient than you might initially think (not having to move a cable around saves time, and also eliminates a potential trip hazard from your work space). And, as you would expect, the build quality is immense (the Gyeon PRISM Plus is highly shock resistant and completely dust and waterproof). In a nutshell, it's an amazing work light for enthusiasts and professionals alike, and comes highly recommended.

How To Use
Before using the Gyeon PRISM Plus for the first time, fully charge the internal 3.7 V 5400 mAh Li-ion battery using the supplied USB charging cable (do not use the light during this period, otherwise recharging will be limited to 30% of the battery's full capacity). Full charge is achieved when all four battery status indicators on the rear of the work light turn red; this usually takes less than an hour from new, as the Gyeon PRISM Plus is supplied partially charged. In future, recharge the Gyeon PRISM Plus as and when required; this typically takes around 3.5 hours from a flat state. Please note that you should never store the Gyeon PRISM Plus with a flat battery, as it could become over-discharged and impossible to reuse. In line with this, if you don't intend to use your Gyeon PRISM Plus for a long period of time (i.e. several months or more), make sure you recharge it fully every 30 days or so, to ensure that the battery remains in good condition. On a more general note, use the lower light output levels for general inspection duties, and the higher output levels to ruthlessly check for paint and coating defects. We also recommend switching between the five different colour temperature settings when checking correction work, as they highlight paint defects differently depending on the colour of the finish, and using the two diffuser caps to soften the light output when applying and buffing off coatings, as they highlight minor imperfections such as high spots and buffing smears that might otherwise be easily missed. You will find it much easier to spot defects if you position the Gyeon PRISM Plus approximately 1 – 2 m away from the area you are working on (either on the floor or mounted on a SCANGRIP TRIPOD or SCANGRIP WHEEL STAND, both of which are available separately).
