We Say
Although it's a well established fact that natural wool pads offer significantly more cut and generate significantly less heat than their polyurethane-based counterparts, many professional detailers continue to avoid them, preferring to use foam pads instead. Research conducted by SCHOLL Concepts shows that many detailers, although well aware of the high cutting performance of wool, prefer to work with foam pads mainly because they are easier to handle and less messy to work with. Furthermore, the industry-wide switch from rotary tools to long-throw dual action polishers has reinforced this behaviour, as wool pads rarely work well on dual action machines. However, there's no arguing that many professional detailers would welcome foam pads with the cutting power and cool-running character of wool, and this is exactly what the SCHOLL Concepts Sandwich Spider Pad is designed to do. Thanks to an innovative dual-layer construction and the use of an extremely porous cutting foam, this pad enables polishing to be performed at higher speeds and with greater pressure without excessive heat build up, even when using traditional rotary tools. The net effect is an extreme cutting action with fewer risks to manage, which is always welcome when performing heavy paint correction work.

Description
The SCHOLL Concepts Sandwich Spider Pad features a highly innovative dual-layer construction that enables it to behave like a natural wool pad. The facing material comprises a coarse open cell foam and features a cross-cut design that increases its effective surface area. Compared to conventional foam pads, this calibrated surface holds a greater quantity of the polishing product where it is needed most, i.e. at the interface between the pad and the paint surface. The net result is an enhanced cutting action, and improved polishing efficiency. Furthermore, the highly porous nature of this foam allows air to circulate more freely through the pad and thus disperse frictional heat more rapidly, which in turn allows higher machine speeds to be used. The SCHOLL Concepts Sandwich Spider Pad also enables more pressure to be safely applied during the polishing process. This is achieved via the inclusion of a thick interfacing layer of a harder non-reticulated foam, which acts as a safety barrier between the backing plate and the surface being polished. The net result of this is a foam pad design that offers an extreme level of cutting performance in a safe and easy to use format. The SCHOLL Concepts Sandwich Spider Pad is currently available in three different sizes.

How To Use
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always prime a new pad by loading it with 2-6 pea-sized drops of product (depending on pad size) and running it stationary on the paint for 30 seconds at low speed; (v) always ensure that spent polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don't be lazy!); (vi) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of PB Snappy Clean Boost solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vii) while not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
