We Say
SCHOLL Concepts state that the best polishing results are only obtained when polishes and pads, like the components in a precision watch, are meticulously designed to work together to enhance each other's performance. Consequently, in recent years they've invested heavily in extending and optimising their pad range, in order to ensure that newer polishing compounds, such as their incredible S20 Black, are properly supported. SCHOLL Concepts Spider Pads are the result of this effort, and build upon the minimalist nature of the Premium line of pads by incorporating a geometric facing pattern of precision cut slits. This design reportedly increases the effective surface area of the pads, causing them to hold more product and cut harder and more efficiently as a result. For the record, we're not usually fans of patterned pads, as in our experience they tend to provide places for unspent product to accumulate, which then typically releases itself when you least want it to, i.e. right at the end of a set. However, given the SCHOLL Concepts design philosophy (which abandons looks and novelty marketing features in favour of functionality and intelligent details that add value to the end-user), we decided to put the new Spider pads on test. Suffice to say we're really glad we did, as they work incredibly well, particularly in conjunction with long-throw dual action polishers and one-step compounds such as S20 Black.

Description
The SCHOLL Concepts Spider Polishing Pad is made from a high quality reticulated foam with a coarse open cell structure, and features a cross-cut design that increases its effective surface area. Compared to conventional foam pads, this calibrated surface holds a greater quantity of the polishing product where it is needed most, i.e. at the interface between the pad and the paint surface. The net result is an enhanced cutting action, and improved polishing efficiency. Furthermore, the coarse open cell structure of the foam also enhances the cutting action and allows air to circulate through the pad freely, thus enabling frictional heat to be quickly dispersed. Moreover, this reticulated foam is also tear-resistant, which maximises its durability. Regardless of your level of experience, you will find the SCHOLL Concepts Spider Polishing Pad easy to use; although it is quite firm it still has a degree of give, meaning it conforms to curved surfaces with relative ease. The SCHOLL Concepts Spider Polishing Pad also features a high quality hook and loop backing, which is set back a few millimetres from the edge of the pad for maximum safety and complete peace of mind. The SCHOLL Concepts Spider Polishing Pad is currently available in three different sizes.

How To Use
General usage notes: (i) always select the least aggressive pad you think you will need to achieve the desired result, and step up one grade at a time if more cut is required (ii) always ensure that you centre each pad properly on the backing plate (this can take several attempts to get right, but is vital if the machine is to remain perfectly balanced during use); (iii) always use an appropriate sized pad for the backing plate you are using (the pad should always protrude past the edge of the backing plate, never the other way around); (iv) always prime a new pad by loading it with 2-6 pea-sized drops of product (depending on pad size) and running it stationary on the paint for 30 seconds at low speed; (v) always ensure that spent polish residue on the face of the pad is brushed off regularly during use using a PB Utility Brush (failure to follow this advice can lead to micromarring of the finish, so don't be lazy!); (vi) after use, soak each pad in a bucket of PB Snappy Clean Boost solution for 15 minutes and then rinse under fresh running water (using your fingertips to massage out any remaining polish residue) and allow to dry naturally, and; (vii) while not in use, store in a dry, dust-free environment (lidded plastic storage boxes are ideal in this respect).
