We Say
When applying a ceramic coating or paint sealant, choosing the right removal towel is every bit as important as selecting the correct applicator. Once a coating has been spread across the paintwork, the excess product needs to be carefully levelled and removed before it begins to cure. Using an unsuitable towel can make this process unnecessarily difficult, potentially leaving streaks, high spots or even introducing fine scratches into the freshly prepared finish.
The Koch-Chemie Coating Towel has been developed specifically for this stage of the detailing process. Rather than being a general-purpose microfibre cloth, it features a relatively compact 300 GSM construction and ultrasonically cut edges, making it particularly well suited to the controlled removal of ceramic coatings and other paint protection products.
One of the most important details is the ultrasonic edge construction. Conventional microfibre towels often feature stitched or overlocked edging, which can be firmer than the surrounding fabric. During coating removal, particularly on softer clear coats, these edges can introduce unnecessary friction and increase the risk of marring. By cutting and sealing the edges ultrasonically, Koch-Chemie removes the need for conventional stitching and creates a much more uniform contact surface.
The 300 GSM fabric weight is another deliberate choice. While extremely plush towels are excellent for some detailing tasks, they aren't necessarily ideal for removing ceramic coatings. Longer, deeper fibres can sometimes make it harder to control product removal and assess whether the coating has been levelled properly. The Coating Towel's more compact warp-knitted construction provides a consistent working surface that is better suited to this type of precise application.
Its 80/20 polyester and polyamide blend provides a useful combination of durability, softness and cleaning performance. The polyester contributes to the structure of the towel, while the polyamide helps with absorbency and the removal of product residues. This makes the towel suitable for carefully lifting away excess coating without relying on unnecessary pressure.
We also like the practical 40 x 40 cm dimensions. This is an ideal size for folding into quarters, giving you several manageable working faces. During coating installation, it's important to rotate towels regularly and replace them as they become saturated with product, rather than continuing to spread partially cured residues across the paintwork.
That's also why the five-pack format makes sense. Depending on the coating being applied and the size of the vehicle, several towels may be required during a single installation. Having multiple identical towels available helps maintain consistency throughout the application process and reduces the temptation to continue using a towel that has become overloaded with coating residue.
One important point is that towels used to remove reactive ceramic coatings may not be suitable for reuse on delicate paintwork once the coating has cured within the fibres. Although the towels themselves are washable, we'd recommend following the coating manufacturer's instructions and retiring any towel that becomes stiff or contaminated with hardened product.
For us, the Koch-Chemie Coating Towel is a properly considered accessory for an important stage of paint protection. Its combination of a controlled 300 GSM construction, ultrasonically cut edges and practical five-pack format makes it an excellent choice for enthusiasts and professional detailers applying ceramic coatings or sealants. It's a relatively small investment compared with the cost and effort involved in preparing the paintwork, but one that can make a real difference to the quality of the finished result.
Key Features
Description
The Koch-Chemie Coating Towel is a specialist microfibre towel developed for the safe and effective removal of ceramic coatings, paint sealants and other protective products during application.
Manufactured from an 80/20 polyester and polyamide microfibre blend, the towel features a 300 GSM warp-knitted construction that provides a consistent working surface for carefully removing excess coating product and levelling the finish.
Unlike conventional microfibre towels with stitched edging, the Coating Towel features ultrasonically cut edges. This eliminates traditional stitching and helps minimise the risk of introducing fine scratches when working on delicate paintwork.
Each towel measures 40 x 40 cm, making it easy to fold into quarters and rotate through clean working surfaces during use. Supplied in a convenient pack of five, the towels are particularly well suited to ceramic coating installations where multiple clean cloths may be required.

How To Use
1) Prepare the coating:
Ensure the paintwork has been thoroughly cleaned, corrected and prepared according to the coating manufacturer's instructions. Apply the chosen ceramic coating or sealant using a suitable applicator.
2) Allow the product to flash:
Follow the coating manufacturer's recommended application and flashing times. The correct removal window will depend on the product, temperature and humidity.
3) Fold the towel:
Take a clean Koch-Chemie Coating Towel and fold it into quarters to create several manageable working surfaces.
4) Remove excess coating:
Using light, controlled movements, gently wipe the treated section to remove excess coating product and level the surface. Avoid unnecessary pressure.
5) Inspect the finish:
Check the treated area under suitable lighting for streaks, smears or high spots. Where required, use a second clean towel to complete the final buffing stage.
6) Rotate towels regularly:
As the working surface becomes saturated with coating residue, switch to a clean section or replace the towel entirely. Avoid spreading partially cured product onto adjacent panels.
7) Complete the application:
Continue around the vehicle, following the coating manufacturer's specific application and curing instructions.
Care Instructions:
✓ Follow the manufacturer's washing instructions
✓ Wash separately from cotton and lint-producing fabrics
✓ Use a suitable microfibre detergent where appropriate
✓ Avoid fabric softeners and bleach
✓ Inspect towels carefully before reuse
✓ Do not reuse towels containing hardened ceramic coating residue
✓ Store clean towels in a dry, dust-free environment
Important: Reactive ceramic coatings can harden within microfibre fibres as they cure. Once this occurs, the towel may become abrasive and unsuitable for further use on delicate paintwork. Always follow the coating manufacturer's instructions regarding towel cleaning, disposal and reuse.
