We Say
There is more to an effective snow foam than simply producing an impressive blanket of bubbles. While thick foam certainly looks good, the real purpose of a pre-wash is to loosen and remove as much contamination as possible before introducing a wash mitt to the paintwork. The more dirt you can remove without physical contact, the less abrasive contamination remains to potentially cause swirl marks during the subsequent wash.
Koch-Chemie Super Foam has been developed around this principle, but with a particular emphasis on professional washing applications. Originally designed for self-service car wash stations and foam guns, it combines highly effective alkaline cleaning chemistry with exceptionally strong foam production, providing a thick layer of active cleaning solution that helps break down road grime and traffic film.
One of the main differences between Super Foam and a conventional pH-neutral snow foam is its cleaning strength. With a pH of approximately 12 in concentrated form, Super Foam is firmly within the alkaline category. This gives it greater potential for removing oily road contamination, traffic film and general grime than many gentle maintenance foams, particularly on vehicles that have accumulated significant dirt between washes.
The foam structure is another important feature. Koch-Chemie has formulated Super Foam to produce an extremely dense layer of foam that helps maintain contact between the cleaning ingredients and the vehicle surface. As the surfactants work on the contamination, the foam helps suspend loosened dirt so that it can subsequently be removed using a high-pressure rinse.
It's worth remembering that foam thickness and cleaning performance aren't necessarily the same thing. A product can create an enormous amount of foam without offering particularly strong cleaning, while a thinner pre-wash can sometimes remove more contamination. What makes Super Foam interesting is that Koch-Chemie has combined very high foaming performance with genuinely active alkaline chemistry rather than relying on foam production alone.
Another characteristic that separates Super Foam from many professional cleaning concentrates is its fragrance. Koch-Chemie incorporates an intense fruity aroma designed to create a more pleasant washing experience, particularly in self-service wash environments. The manufacturer also highlights the fragrance's ability to linger in the washing area, making it a noticeable part of the product's appeal.
For professional users, the recommended dilution is particularly relevant. Koch-Chemie specifies an application concentration of 1:50 to 1:100 when using a foam gun, while self-service wash stations can dose the product at approximately 30–50ml per minute. This allows operators to tailor the system to their equipment while maintaining the appropriate cleaning concentration.
Super Foam is also classified as VDA-compliant Class A when used within the manufacturer's prescribed conditions, including a maximum treatment time of five minutes and an application concentration no stronger than 1:50. This is useful information, but it shouldn't be interpreted as meaning the product is completely harmless to every exterior material or protective coating. Correct dilution, surface compatibility and thorough rinsing remain essential.
Because of its alkaline chemistry, we'd position Super Foam differently from Koch-Chemie Gentle Snow Foam. The latter is better suited to routine maintenance washing where preserving existing waxes and sealants is a priority. Super Foam makes more sense when stronger cleaning is required, particularly in professional applications or when tackling substantial road grime.
It's also important to consider the effect of repeated alkaline cleaning on existing protection. Although a correctly diluted alkaline pre-wash can be used on many modern automotive finishes, frequent exposure to stronger cleaners may reduce the longevity of some traditional waxes and sealants. For lightly soiled, carefully maintained vehicles, a gentler product may therefore be preferable.
For us, Koch-Chemie Super Foam is a strong choice for professional operators and enthusiasts who prioritise cleaning performance and substantial foam production. Its combination of active alkaline chemistry, excellent foaming and economical dilution makes it particularly well suited to demanding pre-wash applications. Used at the correct concentration and followed by a thorough pressure rinse, it provides an effective first stage in a comprehensive vehicle cleaning process.
Key Features
Description
Koch-Chemie Super Foam is a highly concentrated alkaline snow foam developed for professional vehicle cleaning, self-service car wash stations and foam-gun applications.
Formulated to produce exceptionally dense foam, Super Foam combines powerful surfactant chemistry with an alkaline pH of approximately 12 to help loosen road grime, traffic film and general exterior contamination before contact washing.
Its high-foaming formulation helps maintain contact between the cleaning solution and the vehicle surface, allowing the active ingredients time to work on accumulated dirt. The loosened contamination can then be removed using a high-pressure rinse, helping reduce the amount of dirt remaining before the hand-washing stage.
Super Foam also features an intense fruity fragrance, designed to make the washing process more enjoyable and provide a pleasant aroma throughout the cleaning area.
The product is particularly well suited to professional and commercial applications, with Koch-Chemie recommending an applied dilution of 1:50 to 1:100 for foam-gun use. It is also VDA-compliant Class A when used at a maximum application concentration of 1:50 with a treatment time not exceeding five minutes.

How To Use
1) Check surface compatibility:
Before application, ensure the product is suitable for the vehicle's exterior surfaces and existing protection. Test an inconspicuous area where appropriate, particularly when working with sensitive finishes or traditional wax protection.
2) Prepare the vehicle:
Park the vehicle out of direct sunlight and allow hot panels to cool before applying the cleaning solution. Remove heavy accumulations of loose mud or grit with a preliminary rinse where necessary.
3) Prepare the foam solution:
For foam-gun applications, Koch-Chemie recommends an applied dilution of 1:50 to 1:100. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions to achieve the correct concentration at the vehicle surface.
Important dilution note:
When using a pressure washer foam cannon, the dilution inside the bottle is not necessarily the same as the final dilution sprayed onto the vehicle. The foam cannon introduces additional water during operation, so the correct bottle mixture depends on the equipment's chemical draw rate. Adjust the mixture accordingly rather than assuming a 1:50 bottle mixture will deliver a 1:50 solution at the panel.
4) Apply the foam:
Using a suitable foam gun or compatible professional wash system, apply Super Foam evenly across the vehicle exterior. Ensure adequate coverage over areas affected by road grime and traffic film.
5) Allow the product to work:
Allow the alkaline cleaning ingredients time to loosen dirt and contamination. When operating within Koch-Chemie's VDA Class A conditions, the treatment time must not exceed five minutes at a maximum application concentration of 1:50.
6) Monitor the surface:
Do not allow the foam to dry. If the product begins drying before the cleaning stage is complete, rinse the affected area immediately. Work in smaller sections where necessary.
7) Rinse thoroughly:
Using a pressure washer, thoroughly rinse the vehicle to remove the foam and loosened contamination. Pay particular attention to lower panels, grilles, badges and other areas where cleaning solution may collect.
8) Follow with a contact wash if required:
If a traffic film or other contamination remains, continue with a suitable contact wash using a quality shampoo and wash mitt. Super Foam is primarily intended for foam cleaning and pre-wash applications rather than replacing every stage of a conventional detailing wash.
Professional Wash System Application:
For self-service car wash equipment, Koch-Chemie recommends dosing approximately 30–50ml of concentrate per minute using the system's dosing pumps. Follow the wash equipment manufacturer's instructions for calibration and operation.
